Finding a really great Explorer is not that easy. After all, despite their classic status, these distinctive guitars are not built in nearly as large numbers as Les Paul's, SG's and the like. 
 
Here we have one of these rare birds and that in a special edition.
 
For the 15th Anniversary of Max Guitars in The Hague, The Netherlands they asked Gibson Custom to come up with the best possible '58 / '59 style Explorer with specs exactly as we want it to be. And Gibson delivered, in a very limited run! All woods were personally hand selected and sorted for resonance and light weight and the specs all line up with the magic of the real deal '58-'59 Explorers.
 
We love the dark Walnut glow over the mahogany body and neck and together with the gold hardware it really stands out. The superbly done ageing isn't too much and it simply looks and feels stunning. But the first thing you notice when picking it up is the very light weight of only 3.6Kg and the powerful medium chunky 58 neck. You wouldn't expect such a neck profile on an Explorer, but when hitting the first few notes you immediately notice the advantage: the guitar sounds simply super resonant, open and with lots of balls and sustain. Open chords and single notes really ring out when amplified by the Custom Buckers. The playing comfort is amazing and you will have a hard time putting it away for a minute. Whether you play Blues, Rock or Heavy Riffs, this axe makes a great wingman in all types of dogfights!
 
The package includes the Gibson rectangular Custom Shop case, COA certificate, Max 15th Ann certificate, an additional aged black pickguard, additional 15th-Anniversary truss rod cover, hang tags etc.
