"Is this a Les Paul?"

It sure is Bob! This is a Les Paul Junior from early 1963. That is, it's an SG as we all can see. But at that time Gibson still called these the "Les Paul" models and you can still see it on the headstock! Lester had already told Gibson he didn't like the new models but the contract wasn't over yet so it was only by the end of '63 that Gibson changed the name to SG.

Introduced in 1963 as a student model, the SG Junior has been embraced by musicians for almost 60 years now. The rich cherry lacquer finish, early 60's neck joint and sharp vintage body scarfing are typical hallmarks of this model. It’s equipped with the powerful single dogear P-90 pickup with handwired controls and capacitor. The Kluson strip tuners with white buttons, wraparound bridge and just 1 pickup with volume and tone knobs also contribute to simplicity, function and rock-solid tone!

This particular axe is a super cool player grade 2.7Kg light weight ROCK BEAST! It has a nice chunky feeling comfortable neck, super low action, powerful P90 and a lively and resonant body. Comes in a non original SG case. And oh yes, it rocks like there is no tomorrow.

The original P90 pickup screams like a hungry seagull and together with the nickel hardware, Kluson strip tuners, stop tail piece, pickguard, knobs etc it is all original. No cracks, no breaks, not even the infamous heel-crack... Refret with Jumbo frets in great shape. We think it had a light overspray on the body and neck to preserve the original finish, it glows perfect under blacklight so the original finish is all there. The pickup cavity was routed just slightly wider, possibly for a humbucker but it's just about 1mm on both sides, and the pots have been replaced. Also the original P90 pickup had it's leadwire cut short and a new length was added. The headstock has a few touchups on the front treble side and there is all kinds of playwear on the neck and body.

All in all a pretty original rocker that sounds and plays great and we will set it up with a MojoAxe wraparound tailpiece and 1inch vintage length steel studs to get it spot on intonated with the best possible tone and sustain!
