The True Historic Series from Gibson Custom feature true replica-level detail, from plastics recreated based on lab analysis of original 50's parts to double-carved top and neck profiles and thin, hand-sanded finishes, they are the most complete, accurate and refined recreations of the guitars that form the mid-century legend of Gibson's solid body range.

The 1959 Les Paul Standard is considered by many to be the pinnacle of Gibson's mid-century solid body electric guitars. At first a commercial failure, the '59 was adopted by some the world's greatest players like Duane Allman, Eric Clapton, Mike Bloomfield and countless others years after it was discontinued by Gibson. Today, one of the less than 700 originals built commands hundreds of thousands of dollars.

The True Historic 1959 Les Paul Standard is an amazingly accurate replica of these highly valuable guitars rendered in detail so intricate that you'll find the same part numbers and tooling marks on the inside of one the guitar's pickup rings as one, small example. The True Historic 1959 Les Paul Reissue is as close as you can come to owning an original 1959 Les Paul. Experience the ownership and playability of an original, without the price tag of an original.

Their hide-glue construction and premium tone-woods make them some of the most resonant, lively instruments we’ve had the privilege of playing. You don’t just see the difference – you FEEL it.

Obsessively perfect, ultra-accurate aesthetic appointments compliment stellar finish options like aniline-dyed 1-piece mahogany backs, historically-accurate parts and gorgeous maple tops to create instruments that look and feel like vintage instruments. Additionally, they’ve given each guitar a historically-accurate serial number to add to the vintage-correct presentation. A pair of so-close-to-vintage-it’s-scary Custom Buckers complete the package by unleashing the glorious, ultra-rich harmonic content of these phenomenal instruments.

So how about the sound? Well, this probably is one of the finest Les Paul's we've played. Through our vintage amps it does all that you'd expect: driving bridge pickup tones, warm and woody neck, twangier in-between settings and, of course, a plethora of other sounds available from tweaking volume and tone controls.

A particular favourite is both pickups on: bridge pickup, full volume and tone; neck pickup, volume on seven but tone back to four. This produces a sort of 'woman tone lite' that's vocal and expressive, and usable in any number of situations. Flip to either pickup on its own, knock back the volume, and the tone becomes bright and articulate. Whack everything up full and there's raw power at your fingertips like there's no tomorrow...
