SOLD! - 2017 Gibson Aged Les Paul 58 Slash First Standard Tom Murphy

In May 1958, a worker at the Gibson factory pulled two Les Pauls — serial numbers 8 3087 and 8 3096 — off the line for an experiment. Instead of painting the guitars a solid color, the worker created an eye-catching design with a yellow center framed by a red border. The sunburst Les Paul was born!

A few years back number 8 3087 sold for $625,000.00 at a vintage guitar shop in Nashville. And Number 8 3096 is in the hands of No other then Saul Hudson, better known as legendary rock guitarist Slash. Both guitars were verified by Gibson to be the first two sunburst models ever made, marked in their ledger books as "2 LP Spec finish." Although Slash's '58 Les Paul is one of two original sunbursts, it was the first to feature a two-piece center-seamed maple top — a key feature of the Les Paul Standard. This makes Slash's '58 the first production Les Paul Standard ever! Without knowing this fact, Slash rocked his guitar for many many years in Guns N' Roses and played it into the state that has now been perfectly reproduced with this stunning replica.

When first looking at this wonderful authentically aged Lifton case, your heartbeat accelerates a little and your palms get sweaty... Then you open the case. This guitar truly is something else. Down to the very last detail this guitar has been replicated to resemble the original which was measured and analyzed in an incredibly complex process at the Gibson Custom Shop, in order to achieve the highest degree of authenticity, and has taken into account the ‘True Historic’ specifications. Just mind-blowing!
 
Being a real work of art, this axe not only looks amazing but also plays just excellent with a not too thick neck profile, which resembles more that of a ’59. The two specially made Alnico III PAF Custom Buckers provide the authentic Burst sound, and unmistakable the sound of Slash. His feeling, his intonation, his phrasing’s are unique. But you get a lot closer to it with this guitar in hand ;-)
