SOLD! - 1979 Fender Stratocaster 25th Anniversary 1954-1979 Porsche Silver
This is an all original 2 owner guitar with the original store invoice, Certificate of Merit (with a different serial number 255791 but as the correct serial 256547 is on the guitar, pickguard and invoice and it only had 2 owners, it is safe to say the guitar came in the wrong case at the store where they mixed them up) and 25th Anniversary booklet in the original Fender Molded case.
Shortly after purchasing the guitar was refinished in Porsche Silver, as the original pearl white finish on all of these 25th Ann Strats started flaking and chipping heavily only weeks after purchase! Also, at some point it had an additional piezo or Synth pickup which left 2 pinholes in the pickguard on each side near the bridge. After all, it was the Disco 70's wasn't it? But everything is original and the pickups, pots and neck all date correctly to mid/late 1979. The guitar weighs about 4.8Kg which is ok for a late 70's Strat. The sound is warm, rich and it has a lot of ballsy sustain.
In 1979, Fender celebrated the 25th anniversary of the Stratocaster (introduced in 1954) with the first "anniversary" instrument, and the first Fender instrument to be issued in a pre-determined and numbered, limited quantity.
The first 500 or so instruments produced were finished in Pearl White. However, due to the instability of the finish and the checking that resulted, many were recalled and re-finished in Porsche Silver (though Fender refers to it as "25th Anniversary Stratocaster Silver"), the color that was used in the rest of the production run.
Specific 25th Anniversary features include the reversion to the four bolt neck plate and the abandonment of the "bullet" truss rod adjustment in favor of the truss rod adjustment at the body end of the neck.
