1969 "Later Series" Gibson Les Paul Goldtop Deluxe
First things first: this absolutely mouth watering 1969 Les Paul Goldtop comes with original 1960 CTS pots BA811-1053 500K 1346028 (week 28, 1960) and the original 1960 Black Beauty Sprague capacitors! This on its own is a 2000-2500 Euro addition to this already killer guitar!
This guitar is a typical mid/late 1969 Les Paul with serial number 890xxx and no "MADE IN THE USA" stamped below the serial number, the back of the headstock - which had a serious headstock repair in the past - has no volute, the neck is 3-piece mahogany with two little seperate wings to form the holly shaped headstock, the GIBSON logo has no dot, an open 'b' and 'o' and the pancake body and transitional tenon neck joint finish the investigations. The “transitional tenon” is identical to the 58-59 Burst “long tenon” with the only difference that it does not extend underneath the neck pickup. These features are all typical for mid-late '69 period Gibson Les Paul guitars. Furthermore it has the old version 60's mini humbuckers with cream rings, 60's Patent Number stickers and black paper "PAF" tape on the bridge pickup, the original Kluson double line double ring tuners, pickguard, lightweight tailpiece, back covers, studs, trussrod cover etc. Replaced are the ABR-1 bridge for a more recent GOTOH Japan bridge (easy to find a chrome late 60's ABR-1 for it) and the knobs, which are all 60's knobs but not all are from the same set. And as said, the pots are replaced for original 1960 CTS pots and caps!
The there is the look.... Do we need to say more? The pictures speak for themselfes. It really is a killer looking guitar with a vibe usually only seen on original early-mid 50's Les Paul Goldtops but this one will stick to your brain like ducttape to skin. It was owned by the same player for the last 30-odd years, who got it from his dad for his 18th birthday. This guitar was played extensively in several bands and in several studio recordings for "ARTE" (Association Relative à la Télévision Européenne) in Strasbourg, France. The beast comes in a later 90's Les Paul case with lots of stickers and wear. The remnants of a hard life on the road!
Oh almost forgot: the sound. Just look at it and you know how it sounds. Warm, lush, rich and powerful. It is just an incredible guitar all around.
