SOLD! - 1969 Gibson SG Special Cherry Red P90 "Batwing"

€ 3.500,00Prijs

The Gibson SG Special was introduced in 1961 as a "mid-level" guitar. This set-neck mahogany guitar was a step up from the SG Junior with a pair of P-90 pickups, three-way switching, individual volume and tone controls, and a bound neck with dot inlays.

1966 saw a slight redesign of the SG Special, introducing the larger "Batwing" pickguard that went across the pickups and mid-way through the upper bout. 1966 also saw this model get the Vibrola tailpiece as standard, though stoptail models trickled out until early 1967.

In general the 1969 models are popular because they have a more stable neck joint compared to the previous models but the nut can be a bit smaller like this one (39mm). The weight is 3.36Kg and it feels so light... You can play this one all night with one hand and drink beers with the other, it feels that light and easy to play!

This 1969 Gibson SG Special is in pretty good condition and has no cracks or breaks. It has the original P90 pickups that sound absolutely amazing, the original Maestro Vibrola, stoptail (Faber intonater wraptail on the axe, original in the case) knobs etc. The tuners have been replaced by Grovers and all pots and capacitors were replaced with a new harness. The finish is very glossy and shiny and most likely refinished front to back, hence the price.

The axe comes with an original vintage SG cardboard soft case with red plush lining.
