1965 2.6Kg Gibson SG Junior Cherry w/ neck binding!
For sale is a killer sounding 2.6Kg 1965 Gibson SG Junior, well maintained and very original with no cracks or breaks and - extremely rare original factory neck binding- just like the SG Specials and custom color SG Juniors from that same era!!
This guitar is an absolute beast. Although it doesn't directly look like it was played live a lot, don't let it's clean looks deceive you: this is an extremely clear and powerful sounding instrument! Acoustically it is loud and balanced with a cool "snap" that sounds amazing through the original dog-ear P90 pickup, which was wax potted to prevent it from making unexpected noises. And weighing only 2.6Kg you'd be hard pressed to find a lighter and more balanced instrument with this kind of tone!
The bound (!!) neck has the perfect wide 43mm 1.69" nut width and the neck profile is the perfect compromise between Gibson's distinct 50's and 60's shapes. The C-profile starts out as a sweet handful down at the nut with well rounded shoulders and easy depth, graduating to a full neck by the time you reach the 7th fret and as deep and girthy as any 50's Gibson Les Paul neck by the time you reach the 12th. It's a super sweet and comfortable profile that plays ever with ease. The nice dark fretboard is perfect and the frets are worn but play easy and have enough life left. On the headstock, the original nickel Kluson Deluxe double line tuning machines are intact with original white buttons and original black trussrod cover.
All of the electronics are original and work perfect, with the original CTS pots dating 1376514 (week 14 1965) and untouched solder joints. It has the original pickguard, screws, P90 pickup, pickup cover, reflector knobs and backplate. The lighting bolt compensated bridge is modern lightweight MojoAxe that matches vintage spec. The original chrome wrapover bridge is included in the case. The original Maestro Vibrola was removed right from the start as there is no extra discolouration left to see on the top from where it once sat so it has been played as a wraparound for all it's life.
Cosmetically, this guitar has some wear and only little checking across the neck, body and some around the jack output. The nitro lacquer Cherry finish is 100% original with no touchup or overspray nd faded to a nice cherry red to brown. The neck only shows a couple of wear marks as well as some finish checking. There is a piece of wood chipped at the treble top side of the headstock but it has been for a long time looking at the color and ageing of the wood. The neck, headstock and heel are all structurally sound and have never suffered a break, crack or repair!!
An original 60's Japanese SG hardshell case is included in the sale, as well as a copy of the Gibson Ledger with the serial number of this SG mentioned.
