SOLD! - 1964 Gibson Firebird III Humbucker conversion
This player '64 FireBird is an absulute BEAST! It has seen more stages then all of us combined and it has been rocked, broken, repaired, modified and rocked some more...
In the mid 70's it was repaired due to the inevitable headcrack and while they were at it they sanded the body, neck and headstock and removed the serial number together with the finish. It was then routed for Humbuckers, the electronics were changed and the Lyre Vibrola was removed and replaced by a tune-o-matic bridge and stoptail. The refinish lights up like an early 70's finish all around so no new repairs have been performed.
When we received it our luthier did a proper overhaul and replaced the malfunctioning '76 pots for CTS vintage taper 500K pots, rewired it with correct braided wire, replaced the pickguard for an original 60's FireBird pickguard (repro 70's guard in the case) and did a killer setup. We kept the roaring mid 70's Dimarzio Super Distortion humbucker (12.42K Ohm) in the bridge and the lovely open sounding 1970's Dimarzio PAF humbucker (8.82K Ohm) in the neck as these sound absolutely BEAST mode!!! And despite the difference in output these are setup perfectly balanced as well. Furthermore this real '64 has 3 original knobs and 1 replacement knob (broken original in the case), original jack, switch, tuners, trussrod cover, 9-ply neck-through-body construction and dark braz fretboard with pearloid dot inlays. Comes in a recent general Firebird case. The original 60's Firebird case pictured can be purchased seperately.
This is the best investment for anybody who's looking for a killer guitar that stands out in the crowd, sounds like thunder but doesnt break the bank! Its bold, its brave, its mad. Its a Les Paul on steroids looking like a 60's Cadillac Deville. And this you can take to a barfight and come out the winner without breaking sweat. Battle scars to prove.
