SOLD! - 1956-1957 Gibson Les Paul "Double Gold" Goldtop
All our vintage guitars are special, but some are more special then others...
This is an original 1956 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop that was sent back late 1956 or early 1957 to the Gibson factory for repair, and during that process the guitar was finished once more over the original finish and the serial number was re-stamped.
Those ink-stamps are pretty rare but they're out there (we've seen a few before) and they are 100% authentic from the Gibson Factory (confirmed by the Gibson Brands Corp. VP in an email message). So now this Les Paul is basically a "double gold" Goldtop as it has been finished twice. Other than that there are no signs of a repair to the body or neck.
The serial number indicates a 1956 model but the pots read 134.7.01 (1st week of 1957) and the finish looks 100% original 50's. Along it's life on the road this guitar was taken care for by someone who really loved playing it and it has seen a few small repairs: replaced binding on the treble side of the neck, a new volume pot for the bridge pickup, replaced wiring from the toggle switch to the pots cavity and two new tuner bushings.
The rest of this crazy cool guitar is all original: short seam aluminum stoptail, non-wire ABR-1 bridge, tuners, pickguard, pokerchip, switchtip, trussrod cover, two soaring P90 pickups, knobs... It's all there!!!
And yes, this axe has been on the road and back! The finish on the back of the neck is worn off and the guitar has all sorts of bumps, scratches, checking, fading... You name it: it's got it. All except for cracks or breaks that is!!
So it definately has the mojo, now all it needs is a new caretaker.
This is a great opportunity to get an amazing sounding original 1956 ABR1/stoptail Les Paul at almost half the price of a mint example - without any breaks and with Gibson factory original finish!!
Plus it includes a 50's Gibson Les Paul brown case and CITES documents.
