SOLD! - 1953 Gibson Les Paul Conversion to 1959 Jimmy Page No.1 Burst Sunburst
This stunning 3.6Kg axe started life as a 1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop with trapeze tailpiece and P90's before it was converted to this stunning Jimmy Page No.1 inspired Burst.
We have the written history in a pocket memo dating back to 1980!
It has an über cool 1-piece flame/curly Maple Top which was refinished in a lovely Sunburst. The back and neck were also refinished in the process to match it perfectly. The back of the neck has been shaved down just a little from a big fat '53 neck to a sweet late '59 shape. The neck has not been reset and still has the original neck angle which gives it an amazing sustain. The tune-o-matic bridge is compensated and shaved so the action is low and very comfortable. It has been professionally refretted with medium fret wire and some parts are original 50's but most are high end '59 repro.
To complete the Jimmy Page Les Paul setup it was upgraded with new electronics and pots; 2 push-pull pots and a roaring set of Lollar El Rayo Humbucking PAF Pickups from 2013. These sound tight and punchy with a high end that opens up when pushed, its lows remain fat and well-defined and capable of a meaty growl. It's also clear and articulate and extremely responsive to volume control and subjective picking dynamics so you can capture your own unique sound. These have less Ohms than the Lollartron's, giving you something closer to a single coil tone. That makes it superb for high gain amp playing because it doesn't compress when you beat on it. Instead, you get a pleasing and distinct distortion sound when pushed. Just like Pagey!!
This beauty comes in its original brown case with burgundy lining, which is pretty used and worn out...
