1953 - 1958 Gibson 3.8Kg Les Paul Goldtop - Burst Conversion
If you hadn't noticed already: this conversion is one hell of an eye-catcher that takes you right up there with the best of the best! Hand picked from the personal collection of one of Europes leading vintage guitar shop owners in the past, it was since played within an amazing collection of guitars and amps in The Netherlands.
It started life as a super nice 3.8Kg old wood 1953 Gibson Les Paul Goldtop with wraparound tailpiece and P90's which, as far as wel can tell, was converted a couple of times to a probably a '56 spec Goldtop with stoptail, refinished once or twice and finally turned into a '58-'59 Burst with a restamped serial and an amazing center-seam flame maple top, which is most likely an old re-top.
As the finish lights up beautiful under UV light we think this was already done a long time ago, probably somewhere in the 80's.
To make it look, feel and sound like a real Burst, (story goes it passed hands as a real one decades ago...!) it was fitted with amazing sounding real Burst era PATENT APPLIED FOR sticker PAF pickups and 1959 Centralab POT's, original 1950's wiring loom, bumblebee capacitors, short seam stop tailpiece, toggle switch, switch tip, knobs, cut P90 pickguard, bracket, trussrod cover, Kluson single line single ring tuners, strap pins, backplates, screws etc. The neck has a lovely dark BR fretboard with 50's inlays and the front of the headstock has the original 1953 finish and Les Paul logo. The bridge is a Four Uncles aged ARB-1 replica which is the absolute best in the market. The neck has a very nice 58-59 type profile that feels soft and sweet and is very easy to play. The action is nice and low and it had a neck reset to get just the perfect angle. There are no cracks or breaks as far as we can tell. The binding on the body shows places where it doesnt stick to the top anymore but that would be easily filled/reglued or you leave it as is, it's stable and looks cool.
So now it is a big fat sounding beast of an axe with lots of airy harmonic overtones and a touch of hair and edge, acoustically as well as plugged in. This one has that 'real Burst tone' in spades and absolutely looks the part. The neck pickup sounds warm and sweet but still open, the neck pickup has the perfect mid/treble bite for soaring leads. The middle position holds the best of both worlds and you can dial in any sound you hear in your head. This is one of the good ones!
The case is an original 1950's Gibson Les Paul Lifton Brown Case with pink plush lining in good shape.
