Here we have a cool and very rare late 50's early 60's slimline electric guitar case made in the UK for Selmer, in that typical era covering!

After the UK-US import ban ended in the late 50's, Selmer imported guitars from all the major overseas manufacturers like Fender, Gibson, Hofner, Futurama, etc. into the UK without cases, and then offer their own range of hard cases to the retailer/final customer. The Selmer cases were generally of excellent quality built from slabs of sturdy wood, as well as being very attractive.

Fender Stratocasters (L-series) were supplied in the early 60's up to about 1964/65 with rectangular "Slimline" cases covered in a beautiful material, fitted with brass corner protectors and leather rims, as well as a beautiful leather handle (also found on the legendary Gibson Les Paul Lifton cases from the 50's). The inside of the case was plush lined mostly red or blue.

These cases did not come cheap: in 1963 for example one of these would set you back a whopping 8 guineas! That's about 20% of the value of the Hofner / Futurama guitar that came in it and the main reason they were sold mainly with the higher end Stratocasters.

For collectors and aficionados alike, the value of your 1963 Fender Stratocaster in Fiesta Red (an original 1963 Selmer refin off course ;-) ) is substantially increased if it still retains its original Selmer case. Values of the cases themselves, if in good condition, are on the rise for this very reason.
